Description:
The photo shows the only unbuilt area in Nyksund harbour at low tide. It was used for slipping boats in need of renovation. There are smaller boats with their keels upwards, wooden bulbs and a pontoon lying on rocks, attached to ropes because of the tides. A wooden shed, building 31 and building 61 (Brygge) can be seen on the right-hand side of the picture in the foreground. On the left of the picture is the almost completely destroyed wooden building 58, built on stilts. On the opposite side of the harbour is the harbour view of buildings 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 76, 77 and 83 with double chimney. Building 77 has partially collapsed overhanging the pier. Both storey levels of the double quay in front of building 76 have collapsed. A boat is jacked up with its keel pointing upwards under the upper, roofed quay of building 72. The sunlit façades of the harbour buildings are reflected in the harbour basin. In the background, unused fish drying racks stand on rocks. The mountains of the island of Langøya can be seen behind them.
The image, negative 7 of film and contact sheet 5, is one of 15 b/w 35 mm negative films with 36 exposures each, mostly taken by Wolfgang Eschenhorn, which document the stay of young people from Neukölln in Nyksund from July 18th to August 23rd, 1987.
